Our dogs are the ones with an amazing sense of smell. We need them to be confident in their ability to trust what their nose is telling them when tackling their searches. However, a common issue teams may encounter is having a dog who lacks indepependence during the search, consistently deferring to their handler. This can be problematic to say the very least especially at trial!
Why does this happen? Perhaps the dog is lacking in confidence. Maybe the handler had a history of taking over the search and now the dog thinks they are supposed to defer to the handler. There are still other dogs who lack the resilience or tenacity necessary to complete a given task.
In this webinar, we will discuss ways we can help our dogs develop into more independent, confident, resilient and tenacious hunters with a variety of exercises and approaches.
