Scent Work is an exhausting activity for the dog, both mentally and physically. Therefore, we must consciously train to build upon our dog's endurance, especially as we prepare to enter the higher levels of competition. In this course, we will outline how you can get your dog comfortable with routinely finding 8, 10, 15 or even more hides within a single search area!

COURSE DETAILS

One of the easiest ways to ruin the Scent Work game for a dog is to over-face them with problems that are too difficult and too mentally and/or physically challenging. This makes perfect sense! If something used to be lighthearted and fun and now results in your brain hurting and your body feeling spent and sore, you are not going to like that activity much any more!

Our goal with this course is to outline a variety of exercises which will incrementally increase your dog's endurance, while giving you the tools necessary to ensure the game stays fun for them. After all, you need for them to maintain their drive and enthusiasm!

LENGTH

6 weeks

SHOULD I TAKE THIS COURSE?

Do you want to improve your dog's overall endurance as it comes to Scent Work? We will discuss how you can do this fairly and effectively with your dog, both with searching for a larger number of total hides, more challenging hides, more complex search areas and more!

Are you interested in competing in Scent Work trials? These events, even at the lower levels, require a certain level of mental and physical endurance from your dog. We will walk you through how you can build both in this course.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS ARE SAYING

Probably sound like a broken record, but its easy to follow, makes me (and therefore my dog) enthusiastic, go at my own pace.

Introducing Birch Course

What did you enjoy about this course? Took me out of my comfort zone. Making me keep training logs. Teaching me to break down behaviors. That is huge because all I ever see is what I need to work on.

Now What Do I Do?! Course

I liked the pace of the course, how the material was presented and most importantly all of the wonderful feedback. I think the at-home learning experience was far better, due to the enormous amount of feedback (and encouragement!) that we would not get as much of in a live class.

Introduction to Scent Work Course

The explanation followed by the videos to show the skill or skills. That was helpful. The feedback on my videos was also helpful. The practices each week- gold!

This was the most amazing and insightful seminar I have ever attended on Odor movement and hide placement. WOW! Thank you so very much
